| 中文摘要 | 本研究旨在探討國立屏東教育大學澳洲雪梨短期三星期英語學習團三十位學生之澳洲寄宿家庭經驗。此英語學習之首要目的為文化交流與英語學習。澳洲寄宿家庭安排被視為達成此目的之最佳選擇,因屏東教育大學學生可以藉由完全沈浸於澳洲生活中增進他們的英語能力。就澳洲寄宿家庭產業而言,因國際學生尤其來自亞洲地區之學生人數大增,結果該產業迅速成長。就理論上而言,寄宿家庭住宿方式是屏東教育大學學生達到英語和澳洲文化學習之最乎合目的選擇。但在實踐上,他們面臨了一些挑戰。 本研究方法是質性研究,其目的是更深入了解屏東教學大學澳洲短期英語團寄宿家庭生活經驗。研究素材是三十位學生針對寄宿家庭經驗的學習報告。研究結果可分為澳洲寄宿家庭之優勢與挑戰兩部份。這兩部份以下分為七個項目,包括寄宿家庭日常生活、英語學習、對寄宿家庭之感覺、住在同一寄宿家庭之其他學生、偶發事件與生活插曲、環境以及其他。希望本研究結果將提供給目前或未來寄宿家庭學生、寄宿家庭、寄宿家庭供應機構、澳洲或海外大學寄宿家庭安排管理部門、台灣大專院校提供海外留學部門、以及台灣提供海外留學機構一些相關建議和省思。 |
| 英文摘要 | This paper explores the experiences of 30 National Pingtung University of Education (NPUE) students’ homestay accommodation while studying general English for 3 weeks at an Australian university in Sydney. The aim of this study tour was to foster cultural interaction and exchange, as well as English language learning. To achieve this goal, homestay accommodation was considered as the best choice since, ideally, students could fully immerse themselves in the Australian way of life in order to improve their English language skills. The homestay industry in Australia has grown rapidly due to the increasing numbers of international students studying in Australia, especially international students from the Asia region. In theory, homestay accommodation is the most desirable option for NPUE students to achieve the goal of English language improvement and Australian culture learning. However, in practice, there were some challenges the students had to face. Qualitative research methodology was employed in order to obtain a better and deeper understanding of NPUE students’ home-stay experiences in Australia. Every NPUE student was required to write a report, after returning to Taiwan, on his/her experiences in Australia, with a special focus on the advantages and challenges of their homestay experiences. The findings concerning the advantages and challenges for NPUE students’ homestay experiences can be categorized into seven subgroups: homestay daily life, English language learning, general feelings about homestay families, hostmates, random events and experiences, physical environment and other issues. It is hoped that findings of this study will provide insights into many aspects of the homestay accommodation program and have implications for current and prospective students, host families, homestay providers, Australian universities operating homestay programs, Taiwanese universities sending students to study in Australia or abroad, and international education professionals who advise students. |
