英文摘要 | ‘English for specific purposes’ (ESP), as the name suggests, incorporates both subject knowledge and language skills. In other words, language training is realised through the context of specific subject areas in an ESP class. Nonetheless, many teachers who are assigned to handle ESP courses might not receive any formal training or work experience in the special fields concerned. This could not only result in a sense of fear or panic amongst some teachers but also lead to possible detachment between the exact teaching and learners’ target situation needs. This paper discusses ‘team teaching’, a less addressed notion in English language teaching in Taiwan, in hope to bridge some gap between ‘subject’ and ‘language’ often faced by ESP teachers and programme designers. It further examines the advantages and probable problems of implementing team teaching in ESP. It is concluded by suggesting that the application of team teaching should be encouraged in Taiwanese universities for ESP courses. |
