中文摘要 | 自 1821 年開始設立之美國海外學校,經歷多年發展,目前主要有「國防部眷屬子女學校」和「獨立學校」兩大類。兩類學校在學校地位與主管機關、學校董事會、師生特質、課程與教學等,均展現出與美國國內學校不同的風貌。為了有效輔導海外學校的簽展,美國政府自 1964 年於國務院成立「海外學校組」, 1966 年設立「國際教育促進協會」,希望對海外學校有直接的助益。另外,透過大學和中小學與海外學校夥伴關係的建立,以及美國海外學校諮詢委員會的服務,美國政府更希望協助海外學校解決相關問題。整體而言,美國海外學校較強調學術性課程與升學,著重多元文化教育與語官教學,同時也以促進社區理解與展現美國民主教育理念為特色;但其中也存在著學校人數變化劇烈、人事更迭頻繁、課程與教學無法與本土同步,及經費收入不穩定等現象,需進一步克服。 |
英文摘要 | Through years of development, from their establishment in 1821 to the present, the American Overseas Schools mainly consist of “Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS)” and “Independent Schools”. These two categories of schools have all shown different styles, when compared with domestic schools in the United States, in school status, competent authorities, school board, characteristics of the teachers and students, curriculum and teaching, etc. In order to efficiently counsel the development of the oversea schools, the U.S. government established the “Office of Overseas Schools” in the State Council in 1964, and established the “Association for the Advancement of International Education” in 1966, with the hopes that it would benefit the oversea schools directly. In addition, through partnership establishment between universities, high schools, elementary schools and oversea schools, and the service of the American Overseas School Advisory Committee, the U.S. government hopes to assist the oversea schools in solving the relevant issues. Overall speaking, American Overseas Schools emphasize more academic courses and pursuit of higher education, focus more on multicultural education and language teaching, and at the same time, use their characteristics to promote community understanding and to show U.S democratic educational concepts. However, there are also some phenomena such as the intensely changed student numbers, frequently changing personnel, unsynchronized curriculum and teaching, and unstable fund income, etc. to be further overcome. |
