英文摘要 | Ever since the ad-hoc education review meeting in early 1980s, the new right wing education thoughts have assumed a major role in educational policy making in Japan. That is, neoliberalism and neoconservatism have converged to exhibit a new ideology characterized by a minimization of the government's role and a maximization of the private voice in education policy making. The effects have been farreaching, as can be testified by the general trends in the past decade or so that education reforms in Japan have been an experimentation and application of neo-liberalist education thoughts. This paper aims to investigate the main idea of neo-liberalism in education in Japan and its impacts on educational reforms. First, it analyzes the education reform initiatives motivated by neoliberalism. Then, it touches on the aspects of the structural reforms and educational reforms as a way of shedding light on the nature of neo-liberalist-oriented education reforms in Japan. Finally, the paper critically analys and reviews the heated debates arising from neo-liberalist educational reforms. |
