| 英文摘要 | According to Ulrich Beck and Anthony Giddens, one of the important characteristics of modern society is the management of risk. However, in the era of globalization, risk is more unpredictable and unmanageable. In what way do we consider whether the new religions are risk-making or risk-stabilizing? This thesis argues that new religions are not necessarily destructive in terms of risk-making, but rather it reflects the domination of social institutions and the hidden and high risk of contemporary society through the study of the ideology of the anti-cult movement and an analysis of the new religions’ understanding of health and healing. This thesis proposes that the emergence of new religions requests us to have a critical reflection of the social institutions that we depend upon, such as, medical service. Besides, it suggests that new religions are not necessarily deviant religion. Ironically, they may be more faithful to the elementary form of religion. |
