英文摘要 | The ways the western and the eastern treat animals may exist controversial differences due to the dissimilar social structures, histories and culture backgrounds. For the westerner, they would by no mean put "cute and loveable pets" for instance, cats and dogs, on their menu. The idea of eating dogs and cats deviates from the definition and objective concept westerner give to those animals and they think the behavior is rather cruel. During the 1988 Seoul Olympic Game, there were many athletes and celebrities that came from several western countries including well-known French actress Brigitte Bardot boycotted this Korean eating culture. On the eve of FIFA World Cup held on June 2002, aimed at the same issue once again, for there has been much dispute over the question of eating dogs. However, the custom of eating dog is one of element that exist in Korean history. It is an undeniable fact. The article will focus on the eating-dog culture and discuss the taboos behind it. The main purpose of this subject is either to introduce the special Korean culture or to clarify the transcultural misunderstanding between western and eastern culture. |
