英文摘要 | Elevated urinary sulfated bile acid (USBA) concentration indicates an increase in serum bile acid. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of using the simple urine USBA test to detect neonatal cholestatic stasis as early as possible. Infants were divided into two groups: the jaundiced group, with prolonged jaundice lasting over 2 weeks, and the non-jaundiced group. Urine samples were collected at birth, and at 2 weeks and 4 weeks of age. Direct serum bilirubin level was checked at the same time in the jaundiced group. The level of USBA was determined by a commercial kit (UBASTEC. Auto, Marukin Diagnostics, Japan). A total of 36 infants (jaundiced group: 16, non-jaundiced group: 20) were enrolled. USBA levels were 27.10 ± 56.32 umol/gm creatinine (Cr) in the jaundiced group and 10.14 ± 24.07 umol/gm Cr in the non-jaundiced group (p = 0.03). In the jaundiced group, the USBA level at 4 weeks of age increased to 127.95 ± 257.69 umol/gm Cr. A distinct correlation existed between levels of USBA and the direct serum bilirubin (r = 0.778, p = 0.004). Our study showed that USBA concentration correlated well with direct serum bilirubin levels. We also demonstrated that early elevation of USBA levels at the age of 2-4 weeks occurred in those neonates who went on to develop cholestasis. |
