英文摘要 | The present study makes a comparison between Taiwan Economic Review and Journal of Financial Studies editors to examine the existence/nonexistence of opportunistic behavior and its possible connection with organizational form of the editorial board. Specifically this paper investigates empirically the above mentioned issues from two angles: (1) whether or not the editors as a group reveal a tendency to publish more than proportionately research works of their own in the journal they are editing while serving as editors; (2) whether or not the editor-in-chief reveals a tendency to accept more than proportionately research works submitted by authors with affiliation that is identical with the editor-in-chief. Major empirical findings are as follows: there is indeed a strong tendency for the editors as a group to publish their own research works regardless of organizational form of the editorial board; as for publishing research works of others, if the editorial board is composed of members coming from various academic institutions, the opportunistic behavior of the editor-in-chief can be effectively disciplined, as compared with the case in which the editorial board is composed of members coming from editor-in-chief's affiliated academic institution(s). |
