中文摘要 | The tremendous explosion of the Internet and the maturing of digital video technologies have led to an increase in various streaming media application. And, a proxy server, used to cache copies of required data, is thought as one of the best approaches to reduce the experienced latencies, server’s load, and the network congestion. However, new classes of hosts such as mobile devices are gaining popularity, while the transmission became more heterogeneous. Wireless network exhibits different characteristics than wired ones and mobile hosts have different needs and limitations than desktop computers. Thus, an adaptive services framework is expected to support real-time multimedia services in wired-cum-wireless network. We plan to enhance the proxy with the better efficiency of video delivery to all hosts regardless of the type of network connectivity used and evaluate them with respect to the wired-cum-wireless environments. In this paper, we followed the concept of Packet Inter-Arrival Gap to design a proxy-based flow control mechanism with local retransmission and adaptive packet sizing to improve the network efficiency and the play-out quality of video over hybrid network. We believe that the proposed mechanism can react to the varying channel condition with better network efficiency and the play-out quality of video. |
英文摘要 | 由於網際網路的普及與影音技術的成熟,增加了各種影音串流應用的需求,代理伺服器被認為是降低傳輸延遲、減少伺服器負載及網路壅塞最好的方法之一。然而,新一代的工作平台,如行動載具,日漸普及,傳輸環境越來越異質化,且無線網路有著不同於有線網路的特性,行動裝置也有不同於桌上型電腦的需求與限制。因此,我們著手計畫加強代理伺服器的功能,希望能在無論客戶播放端使用何種網路連線的型式下,都能提供較佳的影音傳輸效能,並且在混合式的網路環境下,進行評估網路效能。 在本論文中,我們依循封包間隔(Packet Inter-Arrival Gap)的觀念,提出一個能在混合式網路下,以代理伺服器為基礎設計一個具有區域重傳及可適性封包長度的機制,藉以改善網路效能及影音播放品質。我們相信本機制能對易變動的頻道品質作相對的回應處理,以達成較佳的網路效能及播放品質。 |
