英文摘要 | In the Declaration of Independence of 1776 it states “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” are men’s unalienable Rights. This ever-lasting and meaningful political manifesto is to make America a shining city on the hill. Tocqueville helps us to find out “the pursuit of happiness” had been commercialized in the Jacksonian democracy during his tour in this democratic country. This article is to explore the meaning and conditions of “the pursuit of happiness” and the reason why it became commercialized in the early nineteenth century. |
