中文摘要 | Sub-micron deposition from a laminar free convection boundary layer developing on a heated isothermal vertical cylinder has been analysed. The concentration distribution and the local particle deposition were theoretically calculated under various conditions, using a model based on local similarity solutions with the thermophoretic velocity being proposed by Talbot et al. (1980). The thermophoresis has a pronounced effect on the particle transfer by about two orders of magnitude but only a slight effect on the very smaller particles (0.01 μ m) and that the effect increases with particle size and distance along the cylinder. Experiments were also conducted using mono-disperse flourescent uranin particles with mean diameters of 0.05 μ m. A calibrated flourimeter was used to measure the mass of the particles deposited at different axial locations along the cylinder. Absolute values of the deposits were greater than theoretical predictions but the similar trends to the theoretical model were obtained. |
