英文摘要 | Zhi-Kai Feng (1898-1975) was one of the most famous artists in Modern Chinese history. Since he published "Yuan-Yang Tang Shuei Bi" in 1931, his works in prose has been widely accepted. In 1937, the peak of his literary outputs, he published "Yuan-Yuan Tang Jui Bi". In 1957, he modified "Yuan-Yang Tang Shuei Bi" and re-published it. In 1963, he planned to publish another volume "Yuan-Yuan Tang Shin Bi" and it did not come until his death. Because Feng used "Yuan-Yuan Tang" so often in the titles of his prose works, most scholars labeled "Yuan-Yuan Tang" as the unified symbol of Feng and the term "Yuan-Yuan Tang Shuei Bi" was used to represent all of the Feng's prose works. Therefore, this paper used literary symbolism to discuss the "Yuan-Yuan Tang" symbol. First, we investigated the generation of "Yuan-Yuan Tang" symbol. Then, we showed the message delivered in this symbol and established a symbolic system out of it. From the systematic analysis, we knew that the symbolic meaning of "Yuan-Yuan Tang" was changed by the locations where Feng lived, the functions of his residence, and the events of his time. After understanding these historical backgrounds of his literary creation, we can clarify the ambiguity of the symbol "Yuan-Yuan Tang Shuei Bi" and elucidate the meaning of Feng's works. |
