英文摘要 | This paper presents an overview of urban poverty by analyzing existing concepts and issues in the Western world. Since the 1980s, with the technological progress and the socio-economic transition from a Fordist to post-Fordist mode of production, almost all Western countries have gone through processes of economic restructuring. An increasing heterogeneity and instability of households and demographic features has been experienced in the welfare states. The Western world has witnessed an increase in unemployment, rise in the numbers of public pension recipients, and the escalation of population below the poverty lines in the past two decades, and great concern has been expressed among the academics and governments about the issues such as new urban poverty, underclass, social exclusion, social polarization and spatial segregation which have been seen as the consequences of the economic restructuring, rising welfare burden, ageing and technological advancement characterized by post-Fordism. |
