英文摘要 | The playwright's disclaimers notwithstanding, the dramatic corpus of Liudmila Petrushevkaia sharply condemns the havoc wrecked on Soviet society by its government. From her happily ending plays for children to her increasingly dark plays for adults she exposes the chaos that results from the chasm between promises of prosperity for everyone and actual conditions that pit individuals against each other. Petrushevskaia develops this theme of an inadequate cultural explanation or lost cultural space in the realized metaphor of the literal loss of shelter. Due to the absence of fathers, who are symbols of house and home in Russian folklore, this homelessness is echoed in the total lack of social cohesion displayed in the dysfunctional families found in her plays. Thinly veiled as theatre of the absurd, their refrain is the not absurd more universal question: How can or should we care for others, when we are not cared for? |
