英文摘要 | This study examines the information contained in catalogs of education software, on the cover of software packages and in product descriptions inside software packages. This study also evaluates the quality of the educational software designed for children under age 8, based on the evaluation systems designed by Haugland and Shade. Findings indicate that the information enclosed in the catalogs and on the software covers often do not clearly specify the appropriate age of the software users, the price and the published date of the software. Without this information, consumers are unable to efficiently find software they desire. Information included in the product descriptions also reveals that software publication companies overlook the educational function of product descriptions. Software evaluation revealed that education software frequently did not meet the requirements of allowing children to have control over the computer, to realize the cause and effect of their actions, and to be scaffold during their learning while working on the software. This indicated that the education software often did not embrace the child-centered, learner constructed learning approaches that educators consider appropriate for young learners. |
