英文摘要 | The extreme specialization in Taiwan’s university education has threatened the cultivation of personal integrity. In order to correct this deviation, many educators introduced and purposed the idea and project of General Education. However, because of the following defects, its value and efficiency in Taiwan have never been properly acknowledged. FIRST, the educators gave no complete theoretical indications for its practice. SECOND, they have not enough aware of the fact that the content of general education in Western World indeed rooted in their particular, deep tradition of Liberal Education. Thus the genuine success of General education in Taiwan cannot come from the direct transplantation of it from the West. The author’s previous article “On the essence of general education” has discussed the former defect, now this article is about the second. And the focus is the relevant revelations from Confucian traditions. The aim of General Education is personality rather than Manpower; its idea is the liberation and self-determination of human being. The Confucian tradition’s idea of “The Virtuous” has much to say about this. The domain of this article is Pre-Chin’s Confucianism. Three parts: 1. the meanings of general education; 2. the education theory of Pre-Chin’s Confucionism; 3. the Confucian revelations about general education. |
