英文摘要 | community is part of human nature. Agricultural economy needs more stability of community. The vast territory of agriculture led to the fact that a whole set of social norms was formulated very early in China-institution of Li (rites). The process from the generation to the perfection of Li was synchronized with the development of China from a land of multiple states to a unified one, which began in the New Stone Age and concluded in the Western Han Dynasty. Taking from and adding to Zhouli (The Rites of Zhou), Confucius considered Li (rites) and Yi (morality) as the guidelines to govern the state. Li meant the appropriate norms, while Yi referred to the appropriate distributions of materials. Li and Yi were roughly formulated in the Western Han Dynasty with Emperor Wu's advocacy of the "Monopoly of Confucianism" and the "State of Li and Yi." The fundamental feature of this "State of Li and Yi" was that the ruler chose people rather than wealth. Such a choice was origin of the bonding power of Chinese peoples as well as the essence of oriental culture. People's desires flourish with the overwhelming of commodities. The writer thinks it's inconceivable to describe Chinese people now as the state of Li (rites) and Yi (morality). Yet somehow we think it's particularly necessary to elaborate this point in view of its origin: China is historically necessarily a state of Li and Yi as "Rites and Morality" are the quintessence of or oriental culture. Without Li and Yi, the revitalization of China and the boning of Chinese people would be impossible. |
