英文摘要 | This study examines the stable carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions of the tests of eleven planktonic foraminifera species which were collected from sediments in a box core raised from off northeastern Taiwan. We examine variations in the carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions of planktonic foraminifera in four different test size fractions: 175 to 355 μm, 355 to 500 μm, 500 to 710 μm and greater than 710 μm. Variations in their isotopic compositions reflect their different habitats. The variation in the stable isotopic composition of the species which lived in the surface water shows a greater amplitude than the variation in the species which lived deeper in the water column. The changes in the isotopic compositions in this study area are different from those in pelagic zone of the western equatorial Pacific for the same planktonic foraminifera species, but similar to the variations found in species which live in an upwelling region. This observation may imply that the Kuroshio Current in the studied area may have been modified and deflected upwards by the Han Ridge. |
