英文摘要 | It is usually said that I-Ching stresses action whereas Laozi and Zhuangzi emphasize inaction. What was the interpretation of Wang Bi, a scholar in the Wei dynasty who annotated Laozi, Zhuangzi, and I-Ching? This article focuses on Wang Bi’s interpretation of “action” and “inaction” theories to see how Wang Bi “incorporated Laozi and Zhuangzi in his interpretation of I-Ching,” and how he bridged the gap between I-Ching’s “action” and Laozi’s “inaction.” Questions involve whether he invented new thoughts, and if so, what his thoughts were. How did he contribute to the theoretical evolution of “action” and “inaction” systems? What was the significance of his thoughts in the history of Chinese philosophy? This research article concludes that Wang Bi incorporated the ideas of “seizing the right chance to act” and “following the way of inaction” to explain “inaction as the base of action.” Thereby, his interpretation of I-Ching emphasized three major points: (1) seize the change, (2) follow the natural way, and (3) de-opinionate one’s heart. He did incorporate Laozi and Zhuangzi into I-Ching. Moreover, hi invented the theory that “inaction is not the opposite of action; rather, inaction embodies action.” This ingenious theory inspired later Xuan-xue and Li-xue studies in interpreting and integrating the spirit of “action” in I-Ching with the spirit of “inaction” in Laozi and Zhuangzi. |
