中文摘要 | 傳送連續媒體資料(如:視訊、音訊)往往消耗大量的網路資源。廣域網路(WAN)的頻寬多半比區域網路(LAN)的頻寬來得有限,因此,區域網路之中通常設置代理伺服器(proxy),提供該區域網路的使用者,對外擷取資料的統一窗口,藉由proxy中資料的共享,可有效降低WAN的交通流量,並提升網路回應速度。為此,本文提出一套proxy caching 策略—「suffix–window caching」。基本原理是於proxy中,暫存兩種影片片段︰開頭片段(prefix)與最近播放過之片段(suffix window)。利用這兩種片段,我們可以藉由提高LAN的頻寬使用,有效提升proxy中資料共享的效率,更重要的是能更有彈性地包容具有不同暫存區大小的使用者。透過模擬實驗,我們與先前僅具prefix caching 的策略比較,證實了藉由增加些許LAN的頻寬消耗,suffix–window caching 的確能降低使用者拒絕率,特別是當使用者緩衝區的條件愈嚴苛時,效率改善也就越顯著。 |
英文摘要 | Transporting continuous media, such as video or audio, usually consumes a large amount of network resources. Due to the limited bandwidth of WAN, a proxy is usually deployed in LAN to serve as a common gateway for the users located in the LAN to access external information. Through information sharing in the proxy, we can save the WAN traffic and reduce the network response time. For this purpose, this paper proposes a proxy caching strategy, termed “suffix-Window caching”. The basic idea is to store two kinds of video segments, prefix and suffix-window, in the proxy. The prefix refers to the beginning segment of a video and the suffix-window the video segment just transmitted. We propose a scheme to utilize these two types of segments to improve the information sharing efficiency, which in turn saves WAN traffic. And most importantly, the scheme is able to flexibly adopt users with different buffer sizes to achieve a high accepting rate. We compare our scheme with the previous scheme, where only prefix was considered for caching, through simulation. The results reveal that our scheme can significantly improve the accepting rate at the cost of moderate increase in LAN bandwidth, particular in an environment, where users have very limited buffer space. |
