英文摘要 | A comparison was made between William Faulkner's “Red Leaves” and Frederick Hsia's “The Last Red-Head Crow.”Both fictions have a theme on flight and subsequent death. Flight in literature is associated with a romantic feeling. Whereas death is also romantic. They are not necessary twins, but certainly intimately related. Flight is a silent process; death is a chosen end. The subject essay discusses the difference in attitude toward death between the Western world and the Oriental world. William Faulkner and Frederick Hsia are more than half a century apart in age. Faulkner, a Caucasian American writer, spent all his life in the conservative, poor, backward, racial injustice and fundamentalist Christian Deep South; whereas Hsia, a Chinese, has been living in various part of the world, including China, Taiwan and USA.
