英文摘要 | People are overcome by materialism. When they lose their youth, health, friends, or even their families, it is too late for them to regret. They win the world, but lose themselves. When people get tired of the busy, or high-pressured life, they want to find a way out. Thoreau's viewpoint about life gives them a direction. If we notice more closely, the tendency toward 21st century is in a word, Nature. People want to live a simple life. They eat natural food to maintain their health; they take a lot of exercises to keep their five senses clearly; they enjoy camping or picnicking at outsides. Every thing related to Nature will become a good term. As a result, Thoreau's life in Walden becomes much more meaningful to us. We can more appreciate his words about life. "No matter how mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise." Thoreau said. (qtd. in Harding, 148) Thoreau doesn't shrink from his life; he faces it and makes it become more meaningful. Thoreau found Walden. But Walden is everywhere, if the man himself is there. Walden is a symbol and it can become a reality if you want to. |
