英文摘要 | This paper reports the results of a torch project aiming at investigating the effects of teaching product semantics to a group of BA 2nd-year Industrial Design students in the UK. A one group pretest-post test method was adopted. A semi-structured interview technique was used to collect data. The results were derived via content analysis and qualitative analysis. The results show that the design students were influenced by the teaching of product semantics in terms of:1) attitudes - the student designers seemed to become more concerned with the communication issues. 2) design methods - a shift from the use of a more conventional design method to a more user-focused design method was observed in the study. 3) their works - the awareness of that shapes can communicate messages about the use of products increased. An assessment of the torch mock-ups by a panel of ordinary users and a comparison between the torch project and an earlier fire extinguishers project are also discussed. A synthesis of the above findings reveals the positive effects of teaching product semantics to the design students. |
