中文摘要 | 女性神靈信仰為泉州地區極具地方特色之宗教現象,「夫人媽」崇拜,尤其引起學界注目。本文以泉州地區惠安縣小□鄉的女性神靈信仰資料為基礎,試圖擺脫宗教研究上男性中心主義的傳統,從女性的宗教經驗入手,探討此一宗教現象與社會制度、文化觀念之間的互動與統合關係;以及泉州地區各類型女性神靈信仰之間的系統性關係。研究結果顯示:小□地區女性神靈信仰並非單純的地方迷信或神秘經驗,而是結合了漢人社會的大傳統及小□地方的小傳統,並與其社會結構及制度互動統合所形成的一個社會事實;也是在特定的社會脈絡或條件下,小□婦女集體面對生命經驗中的共同困境,所形成的一種具地方特色的文化設置(cultural implementation)。綜觀泉州地區各類型之女性神靈信仰,在發展上有其內在的系統性關聯,筆者將其分為原始型、發展型及完成型等三種型態加以討論;並以惠東小□之信仰模式視為原始型,惠東大□、東村及晉江益家村者視為發展型,泉州市內者為完成型。此一內在關係顯示了文化互動並不必然只有主流或強勢文化會對弱勢文化產生影響,相反的方向也是可能發生的。我們在了解所謂的「漢文化」時,如能同時關照周邊文化對漢文化所造成的影響,應更能幫助我們掌握漢文化的本質及其變異。 |
英文摘要 | Religious belief in female deities and spirits is particularly characteristic of the Quanzhou area in China's southern Fujian province. Worship of Furenma has especially attracted scholarly attention. This study, based on data gathered from Xiaozuo, Hui'an County in the Quanzhou area, seeks to get beyond the male-entrist tradition of religious studies by approaching the topic in terms of female religious experience. It examines this religious phenomenon, the interaction and articulation between cultural concepts and social institutions, and the systematic relationships between various kinds of Quanzhou area beliefs in female deities and spirits. The research results indicate that beliefs in female spirits in Xiaozuo are neither simple regional superstition nor mystical experiences; they integrate major traditions of Han Chinese society with minor traditions of the Xiaozuo locality. They are a social reality formed out of the interaction and articulation of social structure and institutions. They are also one kind of locally characteristic cultural implementation formed out of the common difficulties faced by women in Xiaozuo during life experiences in a specific social milieu or under a certain set of conditions. Over all, the various sorts of beliefs in female deities and spirits throughout the Quanzhou area have internally systematic relations in their development. The author classifies them as primitive types, developing types and complete types for purposes of discussion. The belief model in the Xiaozuo area of Hui'an County is primitive, those of Dazuo and Dongcun in Eastern Hui'an County are developing, and those in Quanzhou city are complete. These internal connections indicate that cultural interaction is not necessarily a one-way process where a mainstream or dominant culture affects weaker ones. Influence in the opposite direction can occur. When we seek to understand "Han culture," attention to the influences of peripheral cultures upon Han culture should facilitate clearer understanding the fundamental nature of Han culture as well as its variations and mutations. |
