英文摘要 | Folkale jokes are a part of language arts in folklore. They are meant for edutainment and are rich in satirical and humorous contents. They also serve to alleviate the dullness in life and act as guiding principles in interpersonal communication and cultivation. Folktale jokes in Taiwan are hefty in contents. Jokes of remote originality will demonstrate somewhat localized variations in the widespread passage to mark as the distinctive features in Taiwanese version. Wherein, impacts from Fukien (Fujian) and Canton (Kuangdung) origins are noticeable. There are jokes that thoroughly and vividly characterize the life of early inhabitants in Taiwan, particularly when they were under Japanese government and received American assistance. There are other jokes that exhibit temporal and spatial significance when Mainlanders presided over Taiwanese. While the physically disabled and dim-witted are sometimes laughed at, derisive savors rather than malicious wordings are evident. The unscholarly, greedy, stingy, and lazy persons are ridiculed. There are ample examples of jokes with sexual explicitness. This seems to imply that jokes serve as a conduit of entertainment and sex education when recreational activities were scanty in the early stages. An exploratory study of folktale jokes in Taiwan may further provide an insightful understanding of the life and living of the early local inhabitants on this land. |
