英文摘要 | In this paper I shall explore the potential for using young adult literature and reader-response strategies to teach EFL reading and writing. The first section defines young adult literature, introduces reader response theory, and provides a rationale for using young adult literature and reader-response/whole language strategies to enhance EFL learners' learning experiences and to facilitate their becoming more reflective, confident, independent readers and writers. In the second section, I describe the young adult novels and reader-response strategies I have used in my university-level EFL writing/reading course. I also examine the effects on the students in this study of the whole language/reader response activities adopted in this course, analyzing data gathered from students' portfolios, response journal entries, reflective logs and papers, and self-evaluation and peer-evaluation sheets. The third section presents my suggestions regarding how to design and implement a response-centered curriculum and how to use young adult literature, the transactional reading model, and whole language strategies to develop reflective, independent, self-directed lifetime learners. |
