中文摘要 | 過去幾十年來,英語教學理論學者與教們一直強調著科技在在英語教室中的正面效益。他們並提出有關科技如何開創活化的環境,好讓學生更能領受英語教學。為回應這項教學目標,本研究概據作者在國內大專院校多年的教學經驗與實際觀察,探究有關將科技上的某些特點運用於協助英語教學。事實上,據觀察,近年來傳統教材及許多英語教師的可用資源,並無法充分配合科技的快速發展以及學生對較高英語專精能力和對構通式教學日益增加的需求。除探討溝通議教的要素與核心理念之外,本研究利用「2000年葛羅里互動式多媒體百科全書」(The Year 2000 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia—GME)來展示互動多媒體實如何協助溝通式教學以及給有效的溝通式語言教學帶來何種實質的貢獻。運用本技術的理據乃是:由於這項新科技所帶來的互動性,可讀取性,及多功性,因此適當使用多媒體可將傳統上對有效教學的見解導向一個新的境界。尤其,本研究從「葛羅里互動式多媒體百科全書」發掘了其他一些重要的特殊搜尋功能。這些功能雖非葛羅理多媒體公司所突顯,但實際上對革新英語教卻甚為緊要,特別是在課程開發與教學設計方面。這些輔助英語教學的特色正可以賦予「互動式多媒體」更多的教學意義。針對此多媒體在實際應用上提出數點原則供教學者省思外,本研究也從「葛羅里互動式多媒體百科全書」列舉一些有關特定搜尋功能的技限制(而非缺點)。希望所提有關進一步的改進建議有助提升該多媒體日後版本的優點,或促進其他研究互動式多媒體的專家研發專為各種英語教學用途而設計的強力資料庫,以嘉惠非英語國家(非僅臺灣)的大專語教學。 |
英文摘要 | For the past decades, TEFL theorists and educators have stressed the favorable effects of technology in the EFL classroom, suggesting how technology creates and enlivened environment to make students more receptive to English teaching and learning. In response to this pedagogical goal, the study explored the implementation of some features of technology in facilitating TEFL based on the researcher’s years of teaching experience and practical observations in Taiwan’s colleges. In fact, in recent years, traditional teaching materials and many EFL instructors’ resources available have been found unable to well match the rapid development of technological innovations and students’ increasing demand for higher English proficiency and communication-based instruction. In addition to exploring the components and the nucleus of communication-based instruction, the study utilized the year 2000 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia (GME) to demonstrate how interactive multimedia actually facilitates communication-based instruction and what substantial contributions it may bring to effective communicative language teaching. The rationale for implementing this technique is that proper use of interactive multimedia may direct traditional perspectives on effective teaching toward a new realm because of the interactivity, accessibility, and versatility brought by the new technology. Above all, the study unearthed from GME some other important special features that, though actually not highlighted by Grolier Interactive Incorporation, are essential to innovative EFL instruction, particularly in curriculum development and instructional design. It is just these special features to facilitate EFL teaching that provide the interactive multimedia with more pedagogical sense. In addition to providing several points for instructional reflection regarding the implementation of the multimedia, the research also enumerated some technical limitations, rather than defects, of GME in terms of these specific search functions. Hopefully the suggestions for further improvement may contribute to enhancing the strengths of GME’s search functions in its later versions, or stimulating other interactive multimedia researchers to develop more power ful corpus-based encyclopedias designed specifically for various TEFL purposes so as to benefit college EFL teaching in non-English-speaking countries, not merely in Taiwan. |
