英文摘要 | In long-term consolidation tests, the secondary compression index Cα of clay has been found by several researchers to increase significantly with the logarithm of time. Although several reasons have been given, they are not conclusive in explaining this nonlinear phenomenon. In this paper the phenomenon is suggested to result from an inappropriate use of time coordinate scale. This paper also indicates that the use of Cα defined in the e-log t plot from the conventional 24-hour consolidation test underestimates the long-term settlement of clay with high compressibility. Based on observations of some long-term consolidation tests, a simple empirical model is also proposed to remedy the underestimation. |
