英文摘要 | As an oriental singer, I am interested in exploring the Oriental influences on this opera ‘Madam Butterfly’. From reviewing previous literature and recordings, this paper is devoted to examining the Oriental contexts of this opera and to analyses Orientalism in its music and performance style. The paper therefore begins by a brief introduction of the background to the opera including the composer, performance history and plot, and then move on to the evolution of Orientalism in the Western society when the opera was composed. Next, the oriental style of this opera is discussed. The Orientalism in the music is then anlaysed, followed by a review of recordings. The paper then concludes with general implications and discussion highlighted from this topic. |
