英文摘要 | A pullout test machine was designed for the purpose to identify interlocking behavior of gravel deposits. A series of tests were performed with grain spacing varying from 5.0 to O.1 cm,and lateral stresses from 0.0 to 2.0 k g/cm ��. Several kinds ofcollected matrices are used for the tests. A relationship between grain spacing and lateral stress due to matrix properties isestablished. Results indicate that when grain spacing decreasesto approximately around 3.0 cm to 2.0 cm, pullout force increasesdramatically irrespective of difference in matrices. The resultsimply that grain spacing dominates the interlocking behavior ofgravel deposits, which is consistent with field observation. Failurecriteria are deduced from the pullout tests and used for interpretation of the interlocking behavior of gravel deposits. In addition to the comparison of grain content, in-situ and laboratory direct shear test data are also compared with calculated resultsby the failure criteria. Applicability of the failure criteria for engineering analysis and design is finally discussed. |
