| 英文摘要 | The main objective of this study is to obtain a better understanding of the diurnal cycle for the surface air temperature. Hourly surface observations of two 14-day periods were examined: one in July 1996 and the other in January 1997. Sensitivity tests for calculating the daily mean temperature were conducted to illustrate the possible bias when using discrete numbers of observations. A composite diurnal cycle was constructed and the departure from the composite was also analyzed. Results show more than 80% of the total variance was explained by the diurnal cycle in summer and only about one half of the total variance was explained by the diurnal cycle in winter. Apparently this indicates in summer, the diurnal cycle is more persistent since the circulation in this area is controlled by a more uniform southwesterly flow. Nevertheless, in winter the weather pattern is dominated by mid-latitude synoptic weather systems and the diurnal cycle will be less significant. |
