英文摘要 | Oral proficiency is often the most difficult skill to master for those language learners who come to the United States to learn English as a second language. This study reports on the psychological and social factors that relate to the second language learners' high oral proficiency. The five subjects are second language learners who have been enrolled in second language programs and are currently enrolled in university programs in Los Angeles, California. One student is an undergraduate and the other four are graduate students. A correlation is found between successful language learners and the psychological and social factors. Successful second language learners demonstrate a low degree of psychological and social distance in second language acquisition. They tend to have positive attitude and behavior toward the target language and culture. Further studies are recommended to collect additional data from different ethnic and gender groups to see if there is any variance in second language acquisition. |
