英文摘要 | This paper explores the employment effect of a marginal employment subsidy (MES) policy proposed by Layard and Nickell(1980) in a shirking-type efficiency wage model. It is shown that the employment effect of an ex-post self-financing MES is not unambiguously positive. This result is different to that of Layard, Nickell and Jackman's (1991) simple efficiency wage model where the same scheme has a positive impact on employment. The main reason for these contrasting results is that the effort functions in both models are differently specified. |
