英文摘要 | In this paper, the conventional single module method and a newly developed hybrid modeling method for analyzing stiffness of machine tools are introduced. Techniques include building finite element models, determining equivalent load, simulating an interface between two casting pieces, considering boundary constraints and interpreting calculated results. By putting a fine finite element mesh of one of the five casting pieces with the coarse meshes of the other four casting pieces a hybrid finite element model is assembled. The elastic moduli of the simplified pieces are kept several orders higher than that of the detailed one. Therefore, the calculated stiffness of the entire machine tool is essentially due to the contribution of the softer piece with a detailed mesh, which is of major concern. This method claims that, by supporting the bed only at the middle of the short edge on the bottom surface, the machine tool will not be over-constrained. Also, instead of calculating and applying the equivalent forces to the interfacial areas, loads are now applied to the cutting tool. They will be transmitted internally through the structure. Thus, the local effects due to unevenly distributed modal forces can be avoided. It is shown that the hybrid method is better than the single module method in both efficiency and accuracy. |
