英文摘要 | Tobacco smoking is accepted as a major cause of cancers of the lung, larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, pancreas, kidney and bladder. The purpose of this report is to explore the mortality trends for the 7 most common smoking-associated cancers from 1977 to 1996 in Taiwan. Ageadjusted, site-specific cancer mortality rates from 1977 to 1996 were calculated for deaths due to cancers of the oral cavity, pancreas, lung and kidney. Among females, a significant increasing trend was noted for deaths due to cancers of the pancreas and lung. Significant decreasing trends were observed for cancer of the esophagus in males and for cancers of the esophagus and larynx in females. The time trends do not correlate well with trends in smoking prevalence and thus the result may serve as a lead for future studies to identify other risk factors for cancer that contribute to these trends. |
