英文摘要 | One observes that Newton's classic paper on temperature scale containing his law of cooling was published in 1701 and Planck's epoch-making paper on the laws of balckbody radiation and quantum hypothesis appeared in 1900. The period is 200 years. The purpose of this article is to trace some aspects of the historical developments of the theory of heat including heat conduction, convection and thermodynamics through the works of Newton, Black, Rumford, Fourier, Carnot, Nusselt, Jakob, Schmidt, Eckert and others. The foundation of heat transfer theory was established by the end of the 19□ century. An attempt is made to observe some relationships or connections between the earlier works and present works in the light of the current state of knowledge. Since the subject is very extensive, the review on the developments of heat transfer in this century is limited mainly to convective heat transfer only. The review is based on published expositions on the subject, definitive review articles and textbooks by leaders and experts, and book reviews. The emphasis is on selected classical works only. The influences of the pioneers are pointed out but the scope of this work is rather limited. |
