英文摘要 | Since antiquity, the Western European dream of the ideal human paradise, been that of a safe haven far from the unruliness of wild nature, that is of "a closed-off garden". Its symbolic image of water, has been that of the exquisitely shaped, man-made fountain. The oriental term for landscape is "mountain-water". The oriental attitude towards the natural landscape, has been one of awe and reverence. Its symbolic image of water, has been that of the downward-rushing, grand and sacred waterfall. This feeling of awe towards the natural landscape, has since the 18th century been understood and interpreted through the Western European concept of the "sublime". It is the aim of this paper to offer a comparison of Oriental and Occidental concepts of nature and art, through an analysis of the image of "water", and on the other hand, to discuss the origin and evolution of the "sublime" in the domain of aesthetics. |
