英文摘要 | Using a think -aloud procedure, we postulated that subjects would enhance their retention and knowledge of vocabulary through a reading passage. While they were reading the targeted passage with the aid of topic picture and relevant material as cues. the control group was simply given to-be-learned words with Chinese equivalent and sentence patterns. The results showed that subjects in the experiment group inferred meanings from context along with a reading protocol did not recognized vocabulary more. but performed better on the sentence completion test. In order to compare their beliefs about vocabulary learning and vocabulary learning strategies, a questionnaire was administered after the pilot study. The report posits two conclusions: 1) Acquiring unfamiliar words from context along with visual cues had a marked effect on subjects' measures of word knowledge. 2) In general, the experimental group used more vocabulary learning strategies than the control group although their common approach to remember words is repetition according to the self-report. |
