英文摘要 | Though the new communication services being served or to be served is increasing rapidly, most users don't realize that almost all of the information flow are carried in the form of optical signal by the fiber. The advances in optical multiplexing technology-multiplexing several wavelengths into a single fiber-have offered a whole new dimension to the structure and operation of telecommunication networks—the new optical transport layer. All optical network (AON) will become the next generation telecommunication infrastructure when the services offered by this new optical transport is matured enough and can be directly accessed by user's terminal. In this article, we first introduce the new network services and the bandwidth issues encountering in the near future. Then, describe the development of optical technology and its merits. Optical communication applications over the world are also mentioned here. Finally, we try to propose some trend in optical technology. |
