中文摘要 | 長久以來,圖書館員的社會地位不高,其中「圖書館員是專業嗎?」引起熱烈的 討論,圖書館員的專業地位( professional status )未受社會大眾的肯定。 圖書館員為 改善不被肯定的專業地位, 透過各種途徑來改善, 例如在學術圖書館中爭取教師地位( faculty status ),以獲取和教師相同的福利和地位。 但是「圖書館員是教師嗎?」各界 有不同的看法,美國圖書館界相關文獻針對此問題的討論很多,贊成和反對各有支持者,雖 經長時期辯論仍沒有一致的看法,為對圖書館員是否應具有教師地位有更清楚和深入的了解 ,本文即以美國圖書館情形為例,從發表文獻中分析圖書館員爭取教師地位的原因?以及, 不同時期美國大學圖書館員對教師地位的反應?最後,針對圖書館員教師地位面臨的各種問 題進行討論。 |
英文摘要 | It is an arduous road for librarians to achieve the professional status. To attain this elusive quality, academic librarians have aligned themselves with faculty members. There are some fundmental problems in academic librarians' faculty status, so it causes long and much debates in American academic librarianship. Basically, there are two opposite opinions about the issue of "librarians are teachers". In order to clarify some concepts about librarians' faculty status, this article analysis some American library literature. First, author try to explain the reasons why librarians pursue faculty status. Next, to analyse the development of the faculty status in American university libraries. Finally, from some aspects to discuss the problems of the faculty status that librarians are faced. |
