英文摘要 | The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of different duck breeds, growing periods, and diet compositions on the quantity and quality of duck feather and down. Trial 1: Twenty mule ducks in each treatment with three replicates were used in this trial. Crude protein (CP) levels in the diet were 18% and 16% for ducks at 0-4 and 5-7 weeks of age, respectively. Between 8 and 11 weeks of age, diets with CP levels of 16, 14, and 12% were used. Metabolizable energy (ME) was 2,850 kcal/kg throughout this trial. Two ducks at 11 weeks of age in each treatment were killed and down quantity and quality were measured. There was no difference in the body weight at 11 weeks of age. The down weight was between 12.1 and 17.1 g with a difference noted between sexes. The quantity of immature down increased with decreased CP. The growing of down was affected by methionine and other amino acids, such as arginine, cysteine, glycine, and serine. Trial 2: CP levels at 18% and 16% were used for Pekins at 0-4 and 5-11 weeks of age, respectively. ME was 2850 kcal/kg throughout this trial. There were three treatments in this trial: basal diet, 10% wine extract, and 20% extract. Weights of carcass parts and quantity and quality of duck feather and down were measured when ducks were at 9 and 11 weeks of ages. No differences were observed in dressing percentages for ducks at both ages. Large variances were noted in feather weight and abdominal fat weight as a percentage of body weight. The weight of down increased by 11.88 g from 9 to 11 weeks of age, while the number of immature down decreased by 18.4%. Sizes of down increased with age. The quantity and quality of feather and down from Pekins were better than those from mule ducks. No differences were observed between sexes. |
