英文摘要 | The effect of three heavy metals, copper, nickel and zinc (Cu, Ni and Zn) on growth of four cultivars of Japanese barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), Akashinriki, Namiakashinriki, Sekitori, Koudokushirazu was examined by pot experiments grown on long term sludge applied (10t/ha) to a Japanese volcanic ash (Ando soil). In addition, the differecnce in accumulation of these heavy metals in the aerial portion of barley plant was also determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. Plants were grown in plastic pots amended with various rates of the heavy metals, received the normal nutrients and were kept sufficiently moist with deionized distilled water. The analysis focused on effects of individual heavy metals on relative growth (dry matter production) indicating the toxic levels of Cu, Ni and Zn were 900, 300 and 300-600 mg kg , respectively. Toxic concentrations of Cu, Ni and Zn resulted in a similar trend of decrease of relative growth in all the barley cultivars under investigation. However, data obtained for relative growth indicated that all of these four cultivars could be grown at 1200 mg kg of Cu, 300 mg kg of Ni and 600 mg kg of Zn. Mean while yield at these concentrations of heavy metal could vary from 41-104% for Cu with the highest (104%) in Koudokushirazu and the lowest (18%) in Namiakashinriki. While in case of Ni, the variation was 27-56%, with the highest (56%) in Akashiniriki and the lowest (27%) in Koudokushirazu. For Zn there was a variation of 22-44% yield, with the highest (44%) in Sekitori and Koudokushirazu and the lowest (22%) in Namiakashinriki. In addition, it is notably significant that increases in heavy metal addition to the soil led to increases in plant uptake of Cu, Ni and Zn in all of these four barley cultivars. This fact suggests that these barley cultivars could be considered as potential accumulator plants for heavy metals Ni and Zn when grown in sewage sludge treated soil. Irrespective of the cultivars used, compared to control, barley accumulated four to eight times the level of Ni and three times the level of Zn. |
