英文摘要 | Psammoma bodies in a human transitional meningioma were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate their ultrastructural features. The body, visible as a round structure by light microscopy, looks also like a spherical mass with some interwoven fibrils connected over its undulating surface in SEM. These long, slender fibrils are irregular in diameter and orient in random directions. In cross-section the body has a lamellar internal structure, which consists of concentric strands stemming peripherally from the extension of cytoplasmic interdigitating fibrils. Our study confirmed the previous hypothesis of cytogenesis that aggregates and deposits of these concentric fibrils may play an important role in building the initial nidus, which eventually form a larger mature psammoma body. |
