英文摘要 | Background: For Gamma-Knife radiotherapy, it is important to accurately define the target location. But even with stereotactic frame, the small deviation between different modalities can not be fully prevented. In this paper, we developed an automatic procedure to correct the spatial misalignment between positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: Two plates with Z-shape indicator lines were used for imaging, one on each side of the head. Transaxial MRI and PET scans were performed and the indicator lines were filled with CuSO4 and Ga-68 to reveal the reference points (RPs). The location of RP was automatically detected and the exact coordinates of RP were calculated by the principle of center of mass. With twelve RPs of two PET and two MRI slices, we estimated out the two corner points sets (P and M) of "Z" indicator lines. The transformation matrixes R and T that optimally matched P and M were then computed and both image volumes could be re-sliced for composite interpretation according the parameters of R and T. Results: The processing of registration takes only about 2 seconds on Pentium-based PC. The accuracy of registration is within 1 mm in translation and 0.5 degree in rotation. |
