英文摘要 | This study applied a technological based tool in the evaluation, tracking and understanding of EFL student writing in Taiwan. Custom developed software, the QBL TOOLS expert system, in combination with commercial software, was used in response to teacher burden due to large class size in Taiwan English writing classes. The authors assert that objective measurements and feedback have a significantly positive influence on students' skills, while also supplying detailed profiles of the errors common to specific writing genres. Such information has the potential for changing the way teachers in Asia think about large class sizes. Structured research methodology was applied to answer fundamental questions about the actual results of CAI application in Taiwan EFL writing classes. A test group and control group completed writing assignments, during the 1993 fall semester, using software. Results revealed more statistically Significant declines (using t-tests) in the test group's error types than in the control group. Additionally, detailed data was obtained concerning the specific error types common to certain business writing genres. |
