英文摘要 | This study demonstrated the effects of solvent on butylamine- accelerated poly( ε -caprolactone) (PCL) degradation. The difference in degradation rate of PCL was observed in a series of aliphatic alcohols and water/ methanol solvent systems. The degradation rate of PCL decreased as the alcohol chain length increased from 1 to 4, which was partially accounted by the difference in the extent of butylamine partitioning into PCL in each alcohol. In addition, the different reactivity of butylamine in various alcohols may also contribute to this result. In water/methanol solvent systems, the partition coefficient (PCL/solvent) of butylamine in water was higher than in methanol, which resulted in the faster rate of ester chain cleavage in water. This finding was in agreement with the observed decrease in molecular weight of residual PCL solid in solvents containing higher content of water. However, the limited solubility of the partially degraded polymer in water, which played a dominant role in affording a slower rate of PCL weight loss in solvents with higher content of water. |
