英文摘要 | Four clinically used artificial bileaflet aortic valves, St. Jude Medical(SJM), CarboMedics (CM), Edwards Tekna Duromedics (DM), and Sorin Bicarbon (SB), were tested in vitro for their turbulent flow characteristics. The flow fields of the valves were measured in a steady flow model at the aortic sinus area downstream of the valves with a laser Doppler anemometer (LDA). Data including mean velocity, Reynolds stresses, and turbulence scales of each valve were obtained. The Reynolds shear stresses of all four valves induced only minor damage to red blood cells but directly damaged the platelets, increasing the possibility of thrombosis. The smallest turbulence length scale, which offers a more reliable estimate of the effects of turbulence on blood cell damage, was 3-4 times the size of red blood cells and 5-7 times the size of platelets. This suggests that, despite the fact that the Reynolds stresses induce only minor damage, the smallest scale eddies pose a direct threat to the cells. |
