英文摘要 | After a carbon/epoxy laminate was machined by electro-discharge machining (EDM), the surface corresponding to form a blind hole can be divided into four parts according to microscopic structural characteristics. These zones are: (1) surface heat-damage zone at the entrance of the hole (2) crater on the bottom of the blind hole (3) beehive shape around the edge of the hole (4) debonding at the exit of the hole. These are the bases to analyze the pattern of the finished hole to determine if the laminate stacking sequence and orientation have been in any way altered. A novel method for improving the machining surface of carbon/epoxy with an electro-discharge machining process has been developed here. The laminates being machined were covered with copper plates to avoid producing surface heat-damage at the entrance of the hole and debonding at the exit of the hole. The machined defects without using a protective copper plate were, for instance, surface heat damage and debonding at the exit of the hole. They were excluded as the peak current lay in the middle level (1 amp) and the protective side length of the square-shaped copper plate was longer than the diameter of the machined-hole. |
