英文摘要 | By measurement of the serum carboxyterminai propeptide of type I procollagen (PICP), osteocalcin (OC) for bone formation and serum cross- linked carboxyterminal telopeptide of type I colla- gen (ICTP) for bone resorption, forteen healthy men (aged 20.3±1.7 yrs; BMI; 21.6±2.1 Kg/m2), who received L-thyroxine 300-400 ug/day (5.6 pg/kg/day) for 7 days, were recruited in the study to evluate the acute effects of thyroid hormone excess on the bone metabolism. Our results show that significant increase of bone resorption marker i.e. serum ICTP is found after treatment (3.4±1.9 vs. 5.8±2.1 IJg/L; p<0.01) while those of bone formation markers are not changed significantly. In addition, the post-treatment TSH values are inversely correlated with changes of serum ICTP (r=-0.47; p<0.01), but not with PICP or OC. We conclude that serum carboxyterminal propeptide of type I procollagen (PICP) may serve as an early index in clinical assessment of bone derangement in response to suppressive thyroxine treatment. |
