英文摘要 | The aim of the essay is to analyze the idea of the university in terms of knowledge and power in the sociology of knowledge, to anatomize the development of western universities in the view of transformation of knowledge, and moreover, to state the perspectives of social construction of the university entity. Speaking of the idea of the university, the author finds that every university subject to the exploration and contestation of knowledge and power while it is under the examination of epistemology: 1) the literal art educators', facing the challenge of the anti hegemony of the western canon enforced by multi-culturalists or de-colonization of knowledge; 2) supporters of academic freedom being in encounter with deny and doubt of the truth imposed by postmodernist and poststructuralist; 3) supporters of the uses of the universities being under the criticism on their notion of reproduction of the Capitalism, as they emphasize the knowledge economy and knowledge industry; 4) after the radical epistemology's revelation its university idea about the operation of knowledge and power, it aims to transform power into empowerment critically in order to cultivate intellectuals with critic spirit and emancipation accordingly. Therefore, various universities are bearing the functions of knowledge and power in nature. This is also the main purpose of this essay: to introduce the idea of the university idea via the sociology of knowledge which focuses on the argument of knowledge and power, rather than via the idealism that is assumed to be ideal and empty in reality. While speaking of the entity of the university, the author also finds that the characteristics of universities in different periods reflect the transformation of knowledge of their age, thus featuring the developments of ancient metaphysical universities, modem universities, and postmodern universities. This is the second purpose of this essay: to introduce the development of the entity of the university based on the reciprocal construction between knowledge and society via the aspect of sociology of knowledge. |
